Catarman, Northern Samar – Northern Samar residents will continue to enjoy the special privileges granted by PhilHealth, up to end of the year.

This was disclosed by Ms. Ma. Evelyn Montes, the local health insurance officer of PhilHealth Northern Samar Field Office.

The special privileges granted by PhilHealth, authorized under Advisory No. 2018-033, entitles all residents of the province, whether members or non-members, to avail of PhilHealth packages in government healthcare institutions within Region 8 from December 31, 2017 to December 31, 2018.

“The Fortuitous Event Policy and the Guidelines on the Implementation of Point-of-Service (POS) will be applied in the grant of PhilHealth benefits,” Ms. Montes pointed out.

The benefit covers inpatient cases and other packages in government health facilities within Region 8 to include rural health units (RHUs) or rural health centers.

These special privileges came about as a result of the appeal made by the provincial government through Governor Jose Ong Jr. to the President of PhilHealth, who in a letter on December 20, 2017, requested for the grant of PhilHealth special privileges to Northern Samar on account of the damages wrought by typhoon Urduja to the economy of the province and to the general health of its people.

In support to this move, the League of Municipalities – Northern Samar Chapter, reiterated the request, with its President, San Roque Mayor Don Abalon, writing PhilHealth as well for the extension of the avail-all privilege given to Northern Samar as it did in the past, on account of typhoon Yolanda and typhoon Nona, which privilege ended in December 2017.

With Philhealth’s favor on their request, Governor Ong expressed gratefulness for this relief to the many families in Northern Samar.
