CATARMAN, Northern Samar — Gender and Development (GAD) Northern Samar Technical Working Group Chairperson Dr. Venus J. Cardenas urged the 24 local government units (LGUs) of the province to implement their respective GAD action plans.
This, she reiterated during PIA hosted radio program “Huruhimangraw sa Panginudto,” in line with the Women’s Month observance.
“If GAD plan and mechanism is in place, and implemented in the respective LGUs, many women will benefit from the programs and definitely will empower them as partners in local development,” Cardenas said.
“In Northern Samar, there is still a need to strengthen the GAD Focal system in some LGUs and capacitate the focal persons to initiate activities enabling women and ensuring they contribute to so as to benefit from services available for them,” Cardenas further said.
As stated in the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) Memorandum Circular guidelines in the observance of Women’s Month, all activities for the month should adhere to the theme “We Make Change Work for Women.”
The theme focuses on empowering women as active contributors to development and enable them to engage in all efforts and be responsive to women’s issues and concerns.
Suggested activities are installation of tarpaulin, distribution of IEC materials, participation in forum, advocacy, campaign and other initiative and services rendered by government agencies and instrumentalities, NGOs, private sector, civil society, among others.
In the province, there are towns particularly Lavezares, Laoang, San Roque, Las Navas, and Pambujan which observed the Women’s Month celebration thru the conduct of Serbisyo Para Kay Juana. (NBQ/AND/PIA-Northern Samar)
