CATARMAN, Northern Samar — Some 50 New People’s Army (NPA) Communist-Terrorists (CTs) failed to overrun the Victoria Municipal Police Station in Northern Samar around 3:44 am today.

Police Senior Superintendent Reynaldo B. De la Cruz, provincial director of the Northern Samar Police Provincial Office said the 15 police officers on duty have successfully defended the attack which resulted in the killing of three communist terrorists and capture of three other members, one female and two males.

Wounded during the three-hour firefight were Police Senior Master Sergeants Arturo Gordo Jr and Arnold Cabacang due to shrapnel injuries, the provincial director said.

“Initial investigation disclosed that the rebels arrived in town on-board two forward trucks armed with high powered guns, dressed in military fatigues with yellow strip of cloth as head band and some are women,” said Dela Cruz.

The PNP were able to seize one (1) M60 light machinegun, two (2) M16 rifles, one (1) M14 and live ammunition.

Dela Cruz further said the crime scene at the Victoria Police Station is now being handled by the Scene of Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel while clearing operations is still ongoing.

In a press statement, PNP-8 Regional Director Dionardo Bernardo Carlos lauded the Victoria MPS personnel for having successfully defended the station against the attack.

“I am directing all PNP personnel to always be extra vigilant and alert in their tour of duty within their jurisdiction to pre-empt similar attacks,” Carlos said.

At 4 am, Carlos directed to deploy cops from Calbayog City and Lavezares, Northern Samar as reinforcement for the Victoria MPS.

The police station in the 24 towns of the province is now on heightened alert following the attack. (LDL/TBC/PIA-8, Northern Samar)
