CATARMAN, Northern Samar — Partners of the Bureau of Fire Protection – Catarman committed and expressed support to the efforts of the bureau to keep Catarman safe from fire.
Six barangay chairmen and representatives expressed their statement of commitment during the kick off activity of Fire Prevention Month on March 1, 2020 at Catarman Fire Station.
“The six (6) barangays identified are located within the town proper namely, Dalakit, Jose Abad Santos, Baybay, Yakal, Ipil ipil and Narra which were considered fire prone because of the number of houses built in light materials having very narrow passages and streets,” said BFP-Catarman Municipal Fire Marshall, Inspector Darwin Orsolino.
The previous years’ data recorded top causes of fire incidents and these are electrical – overloading and short circuit, open flames (gaslight, candle and mosquito coil) and cigarette butts,” Orsolino further informed.
Officials of the barangays unanimously agree to be of help and share resources and personnel to the programs and projects being implemented by BFP particularly in its efforts in preventing fire anchored on the goal of BFP-Catarman for a fire-safe catarman, fire-safe province.
BFP- Catarman is pushing for its plan to formulate Community Fire Protection Plan and organization of Community Fire Auxiliary Group, house to house survey and lectures, drills and demonstration, training of CFAG and simultaneous drill exercises and house to house survey of red zone areas, lecture, drills and demonstration.
Also recognized during the kick-off activity was the presence of other groups such as Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Catarman Chapter, Catarman MDRRMO, Bankers Association, and other sectors supporting the BFP Catarman fire prevention efforts. (ADiaz-PIA/Northern Samar)
