CATARMAN, Northern Samar, May 12 (PIA) — To increase availability of physicians and address other priority health concerns, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar through the leadership of Gov. Edwin Marino Ongchuan offered a medical scholarship program for indigent and deserving Nortehanons aspiring to become doctors of medicine.
According to Governor Ongchuan applicants will be selected based on a set of criteria which include financial status and intellectual ability.
The provincial governor pointed out that the slot in the initial year of implementation is good for 10 medical students only.
He informed that benefits that will be availed of by qualified scholars include tuition fees, living allowance, book and uniform allowance, transportation allowance and miscellaneous expenses.
Eligibility and qualifications of the applicants are the following: must be a resident of Northern Samar and with good moral character; physically and mentally fit; must not be more than 35 years old for incoming first year; and not more than 40 years old for higher year.
Applicants should have passed the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) and admitted into a medical school in the Philippines.
If grantee of other scholarship programs, must have served return service obligation.
Applicants for second and third higher year levels must have passed all the subjects.
Fourth year, clerkship and post graduate internship and review applicants must have accomplished all the requirements for 4th year, clerkship and post graduate internship.
Those who will qualify have to sign a scholarship contract and return of service agreement with the provincial government. (nbq/TBC/PIA-Northern Samar)
